7th 'Fuuta' initiative on AIDS awareness to kicks off

Dakar- Senegal (PANA) -- Musician Abou Thiam will on Wednesday begins the 7th edition of his annual caravan, called 'Initiative Fuuta', meant raise consciousness on dangers of HIV/AIDS and other activities affecting the people.
According to a statement issued in Dakar on Monday, the tour, which takes place 4-7 March in some Senegalese and Mauritanian localities, is an annual event by artistes and cultural people throughout the Senegalese river valley.
The programme comprises concerts and conferences.
According to the statement, “committed artistes and men of culture” will take part in the tour in the course of which “Medecins du monde” (Doctors of the World), in collaboration with one local health district, will carry out AIDS tests.
The Initiative Fuuta caravan is also the opportunity for a campaign against AIDS which stands as a real threat in the Senegal River valley, being characteristic of a high level of migration.
It is within this context that each year, the organisers hold a competition of women songs against AIDS.
