5th meeting of Preparatory Committee for national reconciliation in Libya begins

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The fifth ordinary meeting of the Preparatory Committee for National Reconciliation in Libya began on Tuesday in Zenten (about 186 km south-west of Tripoli).

The meeting, which was chaired by the deputy chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, Abdoulaye Al-Lafi, is in preparation for the inclusive conference scheduled for next April in Sirte (Centre).

It was attended by members of the Preparatory Committee, representatives of the parties involved in the political process and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Congo-Brazzaville, Jean-Claude Gakosso, whose country chairs the African Union's High-Level Committee on Libya, according to a statement from the Presidential Council.

The deputy Chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, Abdallah Al-Lafi, members of the national reconciliation, representatives of the parties involved in the political process, and the Congolese Minister of Foreign Affairs arrived Tuesday morning in Zintan, which is hosting the fifth meeting of the Preparatory Committee of the Inclusive Reconciliation Conference.

On 5 February, participants at the 9th meeting of the African Union High-Level Committee on Libya, in Brazzaville, Congo, welcomed the agreement of the Libyan parties to hold an inclusive national reconciliation conference on 28 April 2024 in the city of Sirte, to coincide with the launch of the Office of the High Commissioner for National Reconciliation.

In a final statement issued at the end of their meeting, they called on the African Union Commission to continue to support Libyans to ensure the success of the reconciliation.

They also called on everyone to fully adhere to the reconciliation efforts in a comprehensive and constructive manner.
