4 killed in Nigeria attack (Updated)

Lagos, Nigeria (PANA) - At least four persons, including one policeman, died when a suspected suicide bomber attacked the headquarters of the Borno state police command in Nigeria's northern city of Maiduguri, the state capital,. Friday, police said.

State police commissioner Bala Hassan told journalists that the dead also included the suspected suicide bomber and two civilians.

He said many people were also injured in the attack, the second in the city.

However, eyewitnesses said the number of those who died in the attack could be higher, considering the huge explosion that shook the police headquarters building, shattered window panes and destroyed vehicles.

The first attack, which occurred earlier in the day in the Gidan Dambe area of the city, killed one person.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack, but it is suspected to have been carried out by the Islamic sect Boko Haram.

Maiduguri is the spiritual base of the sect that has killed over 1,200 in gun and bomb attacks since 2009.
