4,000 Mauritanians repatriated from Cote d'Ivoire

Nouakchott, Mauritania (PANA) – The Mauritanian government has repatriated 4,000 of its citizens from Cote d’Ivoire, the Mauritanian ministry of foreign Affairs said in a statement, received by PANA here Saturday.

The returnees were brought back via a convoy of buses chartered by the Mauritanian embassy in Abidjan.

The ministry said 450 more Mauritanians were still at the embassy awaiting repatriation.

Several thousands of foreigners have fled the post-electoral violence in Cote d'Ivoire where the incumbent president, Laurent Gbagbo, and the world-acclaimed winner of the 28 November run-off vote, Alassane Ouattara, are fighting for the presidential seat.
