2023 FIFA U17 WC: Burkina Faso face elimination with 2-1 loss to USA

Jakarta, Indonesia (PANA) - The USA on Wednesday beat Burkina Faso 2-1 in their second Group E match at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Indonesia to secure a place in the Round of 16 and virtually condemn the West African side, which lost 3-0 to France in their first match, to elimination.

Fifteen-year-old USA sensation Nimfasha Berchimas scored his third goal of the tournament in USA's 2-1 victory in Jakarta.

Berchimas scored the Americans’ second goal of the game after Keyrol Figueroa had put them in front after 45 minutes when he clinically fired in after excellent work from Peyton Miller.

USA went 2-0 up with Berchimas continuing his dream tournament by finishing from close range in the 6th minute of time added on in the first half.

Burkina Faso pulled one back through Jack Diarra in the 89th minute and close to a dramatic leveller when Souleymane Alio hit the bar, but USA held on to secure victory and qualification to the next round.

Burkina Faso lie at the foot of Group E without a point.

USA, who have played two matches, are at the top with 6 points, followed by France with 3 points and South Korea is third without a point. France and South Korea will play their second match later on Wednesday.
