2023 FIFA U-17 WC: Late Camara strike earns Burkina Faso victory but bow out

Bandung, Indonesia (PANA) - Burkina Faso and Korea Republic entered their final FIFA U-17 World Cup Indonesia 2023 Group E encounter knowing that only pride was at stake for both, with their faint hopes of qualifying having been dashed earlier in the day.

The game appeared to be heading toward a well-contested draw in Bandung, only for Aboubacar Camara to rifle home a late winner in the 85th minute and secure Burkina Faso a first maximum of the tournament.

After good early pressing, the Africans opened the scoring in the 24th minute. Balde Bah drove through the heart of the Korea Republic midfield and slid in J. Diarra, who confidently poked the ball through the legs of the onrushing Seongmin Hong.

Korea Republic would level proceedings shortly after half-time in the 49th minute. Captain Kim received the ball on the edge of the area and spun his marker to buy himself a yard of space, before curling a shot towards goal which slipped through the fingers of Isidore Traore and into the far corner.

Burkina Faso came close on several occasions following the equaliser and would eventually regain the lead in the85th minute.

Camara was slipped in down the right and, while he had plenty to do, he finished with aplomb, as his shot flew past Hong and into the back of the net.

The group was won by France with Germany coming second, Burkina Faso emerging third South Korea fourth.
