2019 CAF U-17 men's AFCON: Mali qualify for West Zone A semi-final, Gambia eliminated

Dakar, Senegal (PANA) - With just one match played on Sunday, Mali have reached the semi-finals of the West Zone A qualifiers for the 2019 CAF Under-17 Nations Cup.

Reports say the three-team Group B was reduced to two teams following the withdrawal of the third team, Liberia.

And in the only match played, Mali defeated Gambia 2-0 and snatched Group B's lone slot to the semi-finals. The Gambians are not eliminated.

In Group A, hosts Senegal on Sunday beat Sierra Leone 1-0 in the opening group match. And in Group C, Guinea defeated Mauritania 3-1.

The West Zone A qualifiers, involving 9 teams, are running from 9 to 18 September, for the 2019 African men's Nations Cup, which will be played in Tanzania.

The Zone is entitled to two slots for Tanzania 2019, meaning that Mali which won the continental title in 2017 will qualify automatically as defending champions. The remaining 8 teams will throw up one qualifier.
