2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers: Nigeria qualify for FIFA world Cup

Uyo, Nigeria (PANA) - Nigeria on Saturday qualified for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, after beating Zambia 1-0 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

This will be Nigeria's 6th FIFA world Cup appearance, following qualifications for the 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010 and 2014 editions.

To qualify for Russia 2018, Nigeria went through, thanks to a goal in the 73rd minute by Alex Iwobi in their Group B African qualifying encounter.

With Day 6 matches yet to be played in November, Nigeria qualified on 13 points from 5 matches ahead of Zambia (7 points), Cameroon (6) and Algeria (1 point). Zambia, Cameroon and Algeria are all eliminated.

Also in Group B, Cameroon on Saturday defeated Algeria 2-0.

Nigeria, the first African country to qualify, therefore join 10 other countries across the world in Russia.
