2018 FIFA WC Qualifier: Ghana maul Congo 5-1

Brazzaville, Congo (PANA) - A hat-trick by Thomas Partey and a brace by Richmond Boakye Yiadom gave Ghana a 5-1 victory over Congo in their Day 4 Group E 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying match played at the New Kintele Stadium, Brazzaville, on Tuesday.

Boakye Yiadom scored in the 23rd and 85th minutes while Partey found the net in the 26th, 45th and 69th minutes, as Ghana sought to put its World Cup campaign back on track. Congo has been eliminated.

Vladis Illoy Ayyet gave Congo's its solitary goal in the 43rd minute.

The result means Ghana have 5 points from 4 matches while Congo have 1 point from four matches. This could be too late for Ghana to make its fourth success World Cup appearance as the group is led by Uganda with 7 points while Egypt have 6 points. Both countries play their fourth match tonight in Egypt.

Only the winners of the five groups in Africa qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
