2018 FIFA WC Qualifier: Captain Asamoah Gyan dropped in Ghana final squad for Uganda match

Accra, Ghana (PANA) - Ghana's senior national football team coach Kwesi Appiah has dropped captain Asamoah Gyan and Holland-based striker Thomas Agyepong as he pruned his squad to 24 for Saturday's Africa Zone Group E 2018 World Cup qualifying match against Uganda.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) said the duo were dropped because of injuries.

It said the Black Stars opened their training camp in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, on Monday in preparation for Saturday’s penultimate qualifier against the Cranes in the Ugandan capital, Kampala. Egypt lead the group and would qualify for Russia 2018 of they beat Congo at the weekend. Uganda are second, Ghana lie third while Congo are at the bottom.

GFA said defenders Harrison Afful and Jonathan Mensah would undergo further tests in the United States to determine their fitness. The Ayew brothers - Andre and Jordan - who play for West Ham and Swansea respectively in the English Premiership were dropped in the first list released by Appiah last week.

The team would leave Nairobi on Thursday to continue preparations in Kampala.
