2018 FIFA WC Qualifier: Cape Verde humble South Africa 2-1 in Group D clash

Durban, South Africa (PANA) - A brace by Galatasaray winger Garry Rodrigues on Tuesday stung South Africa as Cape Verde Islands defeated South Africa 2-1 in their Day 4 Group D 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying match played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, South Africa.

Cape Verde, who beat South Africa by the same scoreline last weekend in their Day 3 match in Praia, Cape Verde, showed no respect for their more experienced opponents as they outplayed them in all departments of the game.

Roudrigues first scored in the 52nd minute from a brilliantly taken free-kick and struck again from a long range in the 67th minute to give Cape Verde a 2-0 lead.

Andile Jali pulled one back for South Africa in the 89th minute but it was too little too late for the Bafana Bafana who are now at the bottom of the Group with 4 points.

The result also blows open Group D as Cape Verde jump to the top of the table with 6 points. Burkina Faso have 5 points from 3 matches while Senegal have 4 points from 3 matches. The two sides play their Day 4 matches later on Tuesday.
