2018 FIFA WC: England beat Colombia 4-3 on penalties to reach quarter-finals

Moscow, Russia (PANA) - England on Tuesday squeezed past Colombia into the quarter-finals with a 4-3 victory in a penalty shootout after their Round of 16 match at Spartak Stadium, Moscow, ended in a pulsating 1-1 draw after extra time.

England converted 4 of their kicks while Colombia converted 3. England will meet Sweden who earlier in the day beat Switzerland 1-0 in their Round of 16 match.

Harry Kane put England ahead in the 57th minute from the penalty spot, after he was wrestled to the ground by Carlos Sanchez, to bring his tally at the tournament to six goals.

But in the 2018 World Cup where last, last, last minute goals are proving to be crucial, Yerry Mina rose highest from a corner kick in the third of five additional minutes to level the scores and therefore push the match into extra time. Neither team was able to find the net again and they had to settle their duel through penalty kicks.
