2018 FIFA WC: Belgium beat England 2-0 to claim third place

Saint Petersburg, Russia (PANA) - Belgium on Saturday claimed the third place in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia when they tamed England 2-0 in their play-off match at Saint Petersburg Stadium.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino presented the Belgians with their medals who made their best ever finish at the World Cup.

Belgium, who beat England 1-0 in their Group G match, opened the scoreline on Saturday after only four minutes, with Thomas Meunier finishing off a move by Romelu Lukaku and Nacer Chadli.

Both sides had opportunities to score but it was Man of the Match Eden Hazard who put the icing on the cake for Belgium when his shot from the box in the 82nd minute beat the England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford to give the Belgians a fitting end to their campaign. England ended up in fourth place, their best outing since 1990.
