2018 COSAFA Men's U-17: Namibia, South Africa join Angola in semi-finals

Port Louis, Mauritius (PANA) - Namibia and South Africa on Tuesday qualified for the semi-finals of the 2018 COSAFA men's Under-17 Championship, taking place in Mauritius.

In their final group qualifiers, Namibia beat Botswana 2-0 in Group A to advance to the semis on 6 points while South Africa advanced from Group B after beating defending champions Zambia 2-1.

Namibia and South Africa join Angola, which on Monday qualified for the semi-finals after beating Swaziland 3-0 in Group C on 6 points.

Here are all the results from Tuesday's matches -

Group A
Namibia 2-0 Botswana
Seychelles 1-6 Mauritius

Group B
Lesotho 1-2 Mozambique
South Africa 2-1 Zambia.

Here are Group C, Day 3 fixtures for Wednesday.
Swaziland vs Malawi
Zimbabwe vs Angola (which has already reached the semi-finals).

Only the top team in each group, after three rounds of matches, will advance to the semifinals along with the best runner-up as the 12 competing sides seek to be crowned champions.

Each of the six Zones COSAFA, CECAFA, UNAF, UNIFFAC, WAFU A, and WAFU B - are to organise their regional qualifiers featuring teams from the zones - Mauritius (COSAFA) - currently going on, Equatorial Guinea (UNIFFAC), Tanzania (CECAFA), Tunisia (UNAF), Niger (WAFU B) before terminating in Senegal (WAFU A).

The winner of each zonal competition qualifies for the final tournament, with the exception of the zone of the previous winner, entitled to two slots. Since Mali won the title in 2017, WAFU A will qualify two teams for next year’s African Under-17 Championship that will be held in Tanzania.

The COSAFA Under-17 Championship serves as a qualifier for the 2019 African Under-17 Championships that will be played in Tanzania, which in turn is a qualifier for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Peru later that year.
