2017 FIFA Confed. Cup: Cameroon v Australia, a must win for the Africans (Preview by Vincent Obi, PANA Editor)

St Petersburg, Russia (PANA) - African champions, Cameroon, still reeling from their embarrassing 2-0 defeat to Chile on Sunday, return to action on Thursday, knowing fully well that a second straight loss at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia will mean exiting the tournament even with the final group matches yet to be played.

The Africans will take on Australia in their second Group B match after the Chile debacle.

They are ranked bottom of the table with no point, just as their opponents Australia who are placed third because they have scored more goals than the Africans. Australia scored 2 goals and conceded 3 while Cameroon have not scored a goal and let in 2.

If the other Group B match between the World Champions Germany and Chile in Kazan ends in draw then Cameroon may well be on their way back home even if they beat Australia by a wide margin.

Cameroon need to put on the usual African fighting spirit against Australia and pray that either of Germany or Chile lose to get an outside chance of qualifying for the semi-final.
