2017 FIFA Beach Soccer WC: Senegal soldiers on, qualifies for 1/4 finals

Nassau, Bahamas (PANA) - Senegal, living up to its billing as a worthy challenger for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, walloped hosts Bahamas 10-1 on Saturday to earn a ticket to the quarter finals of the 2017 edition of the tournament, even with Day 3 matches still to come.

The Senegalese goals flowed like water after Mamadou Sylla scored in the very first minute of their Group A match.

Ibrahima Balde scored in the 2nd, 3rd and 21st minutes; Mamour Diagne in the 5th minute and Lansana Diassy in the 8th minute, to vault the African champion to a commanding 6-1  lead in the first 22 minutes. Gavin Christie scored the consolation goal, from the penalty spot, for the hosts in the 17th minute.

Senegal's other goals were from Papa Ndoye in the 26th and 30th minutes, and Hamad Diouf, who scored two quick goals inside 60 seconds, counting from the 33rd minute (33'32" and 33'58").

Win or lose the Day 3 match on Monday against Switzerland, the Africans, who won their first group match 9-0 against Ecuador, are through to the knockout stage. They grabbed the maximum 6 points from two matches and lead the table with  18 goals difference.

Switzerland, second on the table and also with 6 points but with less number of goal difference  5, has also qualified for the quarter-finals.

Bahamas and Ecuador are eliminated but will still play their Day 3 matches.

Paraguay vs Portugal.
Panama vs United Arab Emirates.

Group D
Tahiti vs Japan.
Poland vs Brazil.
