2017 FIFA Beach Soccer WC: Senegal in flying start, Nigeria disappoints

Nassau, Bahamas (PANA) - Senegal on Thursday began the campaign for a maiden FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup on a winning note, smashing Ecuador 9-0 in Group A at the 2017 edition in Nassau, Bahamas.

With their first goal coming through Mamour Diagne in the sixth minute, the Senegalese left no one in doubt that they are in Nassau for a meaningful challenge for the title that no African country has won before.

The Senegalese scorers were -

1. The 26-year-old Mamour Diagne - in the 6th and 17th minutes

2.  Hamidou Barry, aged 28 years, scored a hattrick (7th, 9th, 21st minutes)

3.  Papa Ndoye, aged 31, scored in the 15th and 34th minutes

4.  Lansana Diassy, aged 27, scored in the 24th minute

5.  Ibrahima Balde, 28, scored in the 25th minute

Nigeria, the second African nation in the competition, lost woefully 6-12 to the more experienced Italy, runners up in 2008.

The Nigerians were so roundly overwhelmed that one Italian player, Gabriele Gori, scored six goals.
