2016 CHAN qualifier: Cote d'Ivoire beats Ghana to qualify for Rwanda finals

Accra, Ghana (PANA) - Cote d'Ivoire on Friday beat Ghana 1-0 in the Ivorian city of Abidjan to qualify for the 2016 CHAN (African Nations Championships) competition to be hosted by Rwanda.

Boua Koffi Davy's 35th minute goal brought the aggregate score to 2-2 and Cote d'Ivoire qualified on the away goal rule as Ghana won the first leg match in Accra 2-1.

CHAN is reserved for footballers who play in local leagues in Africa.

The 2016 edition will take place between 16 January and February 7 2016.

This is the first time Ghana has failed to qualify for the competition since its inception in 2009.

The qualification of Cote d'Ivoire brings to 15 the number of finalists due to participate in tournament.

The qualifiers are hosts Rwanda, which qualify automatically, Angola, Morocco, Tunisia, Mali, Guinea, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Nigeria, Niger, Uganda, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Cote d I'Ivoire.

Congo and Cameroon will battle in Brazzaville for the last available spot on Saturday.
