2014 FIFA WC: Teams ECOWAS urged to do region proud in Brazil

Abuja, Nigeria (PANA) - ECOWAS Commission President Kadré Ouédraogo has urged the region’s three representatives at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil - Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana and Nigeria - to do the Community proud by surpassing Africa’s previous quarter-final record at the Mundial.

In a goodwill message to Africa’s five representatives at the 32-nation football fiesta, which kicked off on Thursday, the ECOWAS Chief encouraged “TEAMS ECOWAS” to aspire for excellence through professionalism while upholding the spirit of sportsmanship.

He assured the teams that the entire Community and its more than 350 million people were solidly behind them as they fly the region’s and Africa’s flags in Brazil 2014.

President Ouédraogo also wished Cameroon and Algeria, Africa’s two other representatives, good luck, noting that with hard work, discipline and dedication, African flag bearers can bring the coveted trophy to the African soil for the first time in the World Cup history.
