2013 Consolidated Appeal for Niger rakes in US$ 260m

Niamey, Niger (PANA) - The UN humanitarian agency, OCHA, announced, in its latest newsletter, that the 2013 Consolidated Appeal for Niger has, to date, secured US$ 260 million, about 53% of the US$ 489 million needed to assist that country in its humanitarian needs.

It said to further boost the figure, a workshop on the 2013 Consolidated Appeal for Niger will hold 8-9 October in Niamey, the Nigerien capital.

According to OCHA, the Government and humanitarian partners, expected to attend the meeting, will review the humanitarian situation in Niger this year, characterized by a series of crises and define directions and priorities in the 2013 Consolidated Appeal for Niger.

"The expected outcome of this exercise is to reduce vulnerability among populations by ensuring efficient and effective response to humanitarian emergencies," said OCHA.

The Consolidated Appeal for Niger is an integrated strategic planning tool which assesses the country’s priority needs for 2013.

It is also a tool for monitoring and assessing results and impact of the projects submitted by various partners.
