165 HIV/AIDS cases recorded in Angolan province in 6 months

Kuito- Angola (PANA) -- One hundred and sixty five (165) new HIV/AIDS positive cases were recorded during the first half of this year in Bie Province, Kuito City health provincial director, Jose Augusto Gon?§alves disclosed Thursday.
Speaking during a meeting with the provincial technical aid commission, Gonçalves said out of this number, 85 cases were from pregnant women, 75 men and youths, as well as five children.
The health official stated that Kuito District had the highest number with 145 HIV/AIDS positive people, followed by Andulo, with nine, Chitembo, Cunhinga and Chinguar three each and Catabola and Nharea, one.
According to him, the high level of illiteracy, early start of sexual relations, cultural barriers, prejudice against the illness, among others, contribute to the increase of the killer disease in the region.
