14th African gender summit opens in Rwanda

Kigali, Rwanda (PANA) - The 14th African summit on gender, initiated by the African Institute for Mathematical sciences (AIMS), in partnership with Africa's top scientific institutes, opened on Monday in the Rwandan capital, Kigali, under the theme "Climate change through gender equality: the situation in Africa".

The two-day summit brings together distinguished African researchers, international experts, leaders in the domain of innovation, influential political decision-makers and activists of sustainable socio-economic development.

Participants are expected to reach a consensus on the basis of scientific experience where improvements related to scientific knowledge and practice are needed, according to officials sources close to the summit.

During the summit, there will be six plenary sessions and four parallel sessions that will centre around the ways and means to improve gender equality vis-a-vis research and education related to climate change.

Discussions include the strengthening of cooperation between the main actors inside and outside the scientific landscape in Africa, the connection between the reality of the UN sustainable development goals and technological advancements and its application in the context of political and strategic factors.
