Nairobi- Kenya (PANA) -- At least 10 people were confirmed dead and property of unknown value destroyed Monday when flash floods swept a settlement in central Kenya following a heavy rainfall.
Four of the victims were members of the same family.
They drowned in the night after a river near their residential estate in Kiambu town, about 20 kilometres north of Nairobi, burst its banks, police said.
Among the dead were four adults and six children.
Five people injured in the floods were recovering at Kiambu government hospital, Kiambu police chief, Athanasius Munyagia who led the rescue operation said.
The floods uprooted trees and water pipes and swept away several houses in the town.
