FIFA U-17 WC: 1st round of Nigerian tourney produces fewer goals

 

Lagos, Nigeria (PANA) - The 36 matches played in the first round of the ongoing FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Nigeria produced fewer goals that at the same stage of the tournament in Sout h Korea two years ago, PANA reported.

While a total of 94 goals were scored in the round-robin first stage in Nigeria, 122 goals were scored in the same number of matches played at the 2007 tournament.

A further breakdown shows that while the highest number of goals scored by any o f the six groups in the ongoing tournament was 18 (Groups A and B each), the highest for the 2007 tournament was 29 in Group F.

Second round action starts at Nigeria 2009 on Wednesday.
