Lagos, Nigeria (PANA) - The military Joint Task Force (JTF) deployed to combat the Islamic sect Boko Haram said on Tuesday it killed 1 suspected sect member and arrested 13 others in Maiduguri, capital of northern Borno state which is the base of the sect.
In a statement made available to PANA, the JTF spokesman, Lt.-Col Sagir Musa, said the soldiers carried a raid on the hideout of suspected Boko Haram members at pompomari early Tuesday, killing one suspected member and recovering one assault rifle and some Improvised Explosive Devices.
It said that during a ''cordon and search operation'' earlier in the day, in the Wulari area of the city, 13 suspected sect members were arrested and are currently being investigated.
The troops also engaged some armed robbers in a shootout at about 0218 hours Tuesday in another part of the city, killing three robbery suspects and recovering one locally made pistol, a dane gun and 3 machetes.
