'EU will resume aid to Cote d'Ivoire only under Ouattara'

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (PANA) – The European Union (EU) will resume its aid to Cote d’Ivoire only when Alassane Ouattara fully assumes presidency, the European Commissioner for Development, Andris Piebalgs, said Monday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia,

"We have stopped all our interventions in Cote d’Ivoire, except the programmes that directly benefit vulnerable social groups, and which are not implemented by governmental structures," he declared at a press conference just as the 16th Summit of heads of State and Government of the member countries of the African Union (AU) entered its second day.

"I reaffirm that our aid will resume only when Mr. Ouattara, who is for us the only President of Cote d'Ivoire, assumes power, " Mr. Piebalgs said.

The Ivorian crisis was the dominant theme of the 16th AU summit that ends Monday evening after two days of works.

The African leaders has set up a high-level panel, led by the President of Burkina Faso, Blaise Compaoré, to resolve the Ivorian crisis.
